Small Timers Harvest the Winnings

Filed under: Random, Skate News — Nealio @ 3:32 pm

I don’t know the results of the beginner or intermediate portions of the Harvest contest (that we didn’t sponsor or host, we just provided prizes), but the top three advanced riders just happened to be Small Time gangstas… note: the tricks pictured were taken during warm ups.

Of interest… Bankhead got his board wet:

Chad helped to run the show:

And little Trey (green hat) “accidentally” hit a cop car with his board (really):

Terry’s Commercial on Fuel TV (Very Tight)

Filed under: Video, Non Skate News — Nealio @ 9:51 pm

Terry just sent me his new commercial for Fuel TV (shot in New York)… there’s no other way to say this… it’s awesome. Most commercials that feature anything bike or skate related tend to come across as cheesy to me, but this was done right. The filming, the atmosphere and the riding just fit perfect. Check it out by clicking here (right-click and save as).
The file is an Mp4, so you need to have Quicktime or iTunes to play it… so do that and check out my boy. It’s a little over 2.6 megs in file size, so it might take a few minutes if you’re on dial up.

Props to Sean and Aminal! They’re about to head up to Memphis and show ‘em what the south is all about…

The Harvest Contest

Filed under: Random — Nealio @ 2:58 pm

We’ve been fielding a lot of questions regarding the contest at Harvest being held today… we don’t know how it’s being run or anything… we aren’t actually hosting the event, we simply provided the prizes. For contest info, please contact Harvest Ministries!

Transworld for Sale

Filed under: Random, Skate News — Nealio @ 6:54 pm

Skate Daily is reporting that Transworld Media Matrix (the mothership over Transworld Skateboarding) is being sold off by Time Inc. This could mean two things… either Transworld will get purchased by someone else and everything will remain the same (likely), or there won’t be any buyers and it’ll get liquidated (not as likely). I’d sure hate it if they went under… I just renewed a subscription.

On an unrelated note, I’ll be heading to Orlando this weekend to represent Chief Skateboards and Small Times in an amateur mini ramp contest being held at Surf Expo (it’s like an ASR trade show, but on the other coast). I’ll try to update the site if time permits (and if I can find an internet connection). I’m pretty stoked because travelling with us will be none other than Louisiana pro rider Shannon May. I’m stoked.

eS Game of Skate

Filed under: Video, Skate News — Nealio @ 7:40 am

You gotta love underdogs… unknown German ripper Alex Mizurov wound up working his way through both ams and pros, eventually beating Chris Cole and taking home $10,000 in the eS Game of Skate 2006.

Props and a ham sandwich to Dwight for finding a sick highlight video of the event (and eventual win) here, no props and a bologna taco for me for finding a crappier (though longer) version of the same event here.

By the way… you should join our forums and be up to date on stuff like this (as well as stuff going on around Louisiana). I’m going to make it a point to notify forum members of big news events (like demos and contests) a full day before everyone else… come geek out.

Active Mailorder’s Shady Side (One More Reason Why Mailorder is Evil)

Filed under: Random, Skate News — Nealio @ 10:48 pm

Active Mailorder is one of the largest skateboard-related mailorder sites on the web, so chances are you’ve seen them advertised on the web or in your favorite skate mag.

Now I don’t know if they’re hurting for business, but they sure have become desperate. One of their employees has been visiting random web forums, posing as “pajansmith333″, and posting the following:

Active Mailorder has the best deals!
Man I just bought some shoes from Active Mailorder for super cheap! I also saw some good deals on tee’s, I wish I had some more cash!

As far as I can tell, they’ve hit Thrasher, Slap (registration required), and Skateboard City.

It just so happens that I’m a moderator at Thrasher, and as you can see in the Thrasher link above, I found out that the IP address he was posting from (66.146.54.36) came from the same network that Active’s website is on (the site’s IP is 66.146.54.196)… that means that he was doing this from inside the offices of Active.

I’ve mentioned mail order companies before, but this is proof positive… these scumbags will do anything for money. Never trust anyone that’s willing to lie to you just to make a buck.

You’ve seen this pic before, but I’m putting it up again:

If you live in a town with a skater owned skateshop, go there and give them some love.

Oh yeah…
They hit Skater’s Cafe as well.

Portia’s Home!

Filed under: Random — Nealio @ 10:13 pm

We just got word that Aminal Sean’s daughter is home from the hospital… she still needs a lot of checkups, meds, and watchful eyes, but the little lady is home. Everyone here at Small Times wishes Portia, Sean, Allison, and the rest of the family the best of luck. We’re rooting for you guys, and we’re stoked that she’s at home where she belongs.
