The Federal Government Discovers Skateboarding

Filed under: Random — Nealio @ 8:20 pm

This is just weird… the State Department just posted up a poorly crafted article about skateboarding here… I mean, the article isn’t anti-skating or anything, it’s just a really horrible read, partially because it sounds like they just found out what skateboarding is. Then again, considering our government’s track record, maybe they did just find out about our crazy little board-skates. Yeesh.

Please Take a Moment…

Filed under: Non Skate News — Nealio @ 10:08 pm

Some of you may remember when I posted the announcement of Shawn’s baby (Portia) being born (Shawn is a great skater, a great person, and the owner of Aminal Skateboards). We recieved news that little Portia is undergoing a medical problem right now… I don’t want to get into the details, as I don’t think this is the right place to air such things, but I would appreciate it if you could do one of the following (depending on which category you fit in):

1. If you’re religious, please throw a prayer out for Portia to the being that you pray to.
2. If you’re a non religious spiritual type, take a moment to send some love out to Portia and the rest of the family.
3. If you’re not religious or spiritual at all, just post in the comments under this post and give a postive shout out. Actually, I encourage everyone to post a comment under this post… if only to wish Portia Rae some luck and to send a little love. The family will see this, and it would be really tight to make sure that they know that there’s some people out here that have their backs.

Thanks everybody.

Over 30?

Filed under: Random, Website Stuff — Nealio @ 7:41 pm

Big props to Braman for telling us about Old Man Army… it’s a site run by (and dedicated to) skaters 30 years old and older. If you’re a skate vet, check it out… they have killer forums and a lot of nice people you can talk to.

RIP Phil Shao

Filed under: Video — Nealio @ 12:43 pm

Eight years ago, Phil Shao (a Nor-Cal skateboarding legend) was killed in a car accident. For those of you old enough to remember him, you know how much his loss weighed in the skateboard community. For those of you that are younger, check out this video on Youtube.

It’s hard to believe that it’s been so long. RIP, man.

Just a reminder… Small Time Skates is 100% supportive of Mayson Foster. If you live in the city and you’re 18 or older… vote for the only mayor that not only has skatepark photos on his site, but also supports the scene that he helped to create.

A Day in the Life of Terry Adams

Filed under: Random, Non Skate News — Nealio @ 7:23 pm

A must read… Fat Tony (a nice fella who used to run a Louisiana-based BMX site, and who’s now running the website for Ride BMX Magazine) followed Terry around for a day and witnessed first-hand a day in the life of a local homie who is now basically a rockstar in the world of bike riding. Check out the article here.

When?

Filed under: Random, Skate News, Shop News — Nealio @ 9:22 pm

A lot of you have been asking us when the Chicken Coop is going to be open… though we don’t have a firm date set, I can say SOON! If you want to slam some nails with a hammer and help out, call up the shop and offer up your skills! As some of you know, the construction was put on hold because Chris took a trip up to Portland, where he got to witness none other than Omar Hassan, Ben Khran, and Christian Hosoi tearing up Burnside… how lucky is that? Anyway, Chris is back in town, and as I type this, the fellas are working on the sickest indoor park ever made.

Before I end this post, I wanted to give Chris a formal greeting since he’s been gone so long:

Ugh…

Filed under: Random — Nealio @ 11:02 am

Hot August Nights was awesome…  a few of us took photos of the artwork and mingling that took place. I’d try to collect them and post them all right now, but I have a headache from the depths of Hades right now (thanks to the shop’s cheap beer tasting). I personally “tasted” multiple samples of the goods last night, and I think they’re all winners.

Well, at least they were until I had to wake up the next morning. Pics up soon, peace.
