Filed under: Random, Video — Nealio @ 9:42 pm

A few weeks back Josh and I met up with Aminal Shawn and some of his boys, and then we took turns filming each other. Fun session for sure! Check it:

Nike Ad Video… Hammond BGPs!

Filed under: Video, Local Skating in the Media — Nealio @ 6:15 pm

…I guess we became part of Florida. Unless they’re counting us since we’re in the Florida parishes. Anyway, Chet shows love yet again!

Our local-boy-done-good Terry Adams just finished a little “Cribs” style clip with Fat Tony for Transworld BMX. It’s pretty damn hilarious… click here.

Scuba Steve posted this in the forums, but I thought it was too good to keep there… thanks for letting me share it with everybody else!

RIP Mike, roll forever!

Clips from the Four Star Tour… Nearly Half of it’s in Hammond…

Filed under: Video, Local Skating in the Media — Nealio @ 6:06 pm

Pretty psyched on this… thanks to Thomas for alerting Kerry that this was online. Hammond opens up roughly the first 3 minutes and 20 seconds of this montage (Dreamland and The Chicken Coop, respectively):

Got Footy? Send it our way and we’ll post it up.

I was talking with Kerry about an idea I had for the site, and we agreed to give something new a shot… as you already know, we post a new photo from our very own Small Times’ Gregory, but we though it might be cool to introduce a new weekly segment to the site… this one includes you if you’d like to take part.

All we’re asking for it footage… we’re not asking for it to sponsor anyone, we’re not looking for the gnarliest shit (although gnar gnar is appreciated when possible), and most importantly, we’re not asking to OWN it. We just want to repost footage that you’ve uploaded to common sites like Youtube, Google, Vimeo, MySpace, or any other video hosting site that allows embedding (so we can share your clip).

What we’re looking for:
Homegrown skate videos highlighting people having fun. It can be a single person’s part or a whole crew’s video, we don’t care. Chances are, if you filmed it, you’re in it, or you’re the person who can make it happen, we’ll probably put it up.
We especially want to see vids from locals, Louisiana heads, anyone in the Dirty South, and beyond that, anyone else who’s down with having a good time on a board. Basically, everyone’s included, but we’d really like to highlight the south, which is often overlooked (if not ignored) by some in the mainstream skate-media.

We don’t care how good you think you are… if you’re having fun and you have it on the web, then it’s good enough.

Instructions:
Get ready to write an email to Neal at vectornerd@gmail.com
In the subject of the email, type in something like “video for the site” or something similar so I’ll know what it is before opening it (that way I can catalog the email easily, seeing as how I get a couple hundred random emails a day already).
Insert a link to the clip… like I said, it can be from Google, Vimeo, YouTube, MySpace, or any other video service that allows you to “embed” the viddy on a web page.
This is important: Even if I already know who you are (in real life), please include the name of the skater or skaters (in order of appearance if possible), the filmer or filmers, and the editor. We want to make sure everyone gets credit. If you have a song in the clip, mention it and the name of the band if possible (even if the band or song are currently popular).

I’ll sit back and wait for your emails… if, after a couple of weeks, I get a big enough stack, then I’ll introduce a video clip of the week every Wednesday. All ya gotta do is email us.

Last thing, this is not a contest!
Basically, we have a pretty well-trafficked website, often with hundreds of visitors from all over the world. We want to be one source out there that showcases the skate scene as you see it, though your own documentation. It’s possible that not every video makes it, but as for right now, who knows?

Anyway, send us those clips. Everyone you give credit to will be credited on the site, and we’d really like to help you share your interpretations and filmed experience as a skater… skating and having fun doing it.

Hit me up!

Did you miss the Indy team when they came down? Check it… this clip starts in NOLA, then goes to Dreamland, and then right inside our very own Chicken Coop: Click Here

If that weren’t enough, here’s Brian Anderson from Girl Skateboards killing the Coop: Right Click and Save

Thanks to everyone that emailed me!

Important Big Mike Raffle Update, Plus New Video!

Filed under: Video, Skate News, Skate Advocacy, Shop News — Nealio @ 6:00 pm

The official deadline to win this stuff is May 28. Come in, plunk down five bucks, and win the whole stash.

This is the very last Big Mike Raffle… come give it one last shot while there’s still time! Enter as may times as you can for better odds!

Before I leave you with that, here’s an edit I made off of some slightly older footage that has a good portion of Big Mike’s backyard ramp in it. We had shown up late, so we don’t have footy of him skating in this clip, but he had been ripping it the entire day before we showed up.

Anyway, please give this final raffle a shot. All of the funds will go directly to the Big Mike Trust, which will in turn go directly to Mike’s wife Darlene and son Erik (who also happens to be another skater to the bone).

Thanks.

Dreamland Mini Documentary

Filed under: Video, Local Skating in the Media, Skate Advocacy — Nealio @ 2:15 pm

This is a student film, created by Brandi Matthews and Stacey Winokur. It almost looks like a news broadcast… anyway, we’re pretty stoked on the way it came out.

Remember that we owe skateboarding everything, skateboarding owes us nothing.

Deluxe and Small Times, in Full Effect

Filed under: Video, Shop News — Nealio @ 7:43 pm

We’re extremely stoked to have been one of a number of real skate shops that received a co-branded poster featuring the one and only John Cardiel, a cat that bleeds skateboarding. Check it:

(Click the pic for a larger version)

If you aren’t familiar with John’s legacy in skateboarding, either check out his 16-part interview/biography on Epicly Later’d, or come by the shop and watch the whole thing on DVD, over and over again until you realize how inspiring Cards is.

On top of that, you’ll notice that the ad is for the new Spitfire F1 Streetburners and Parkburners… me and Kerry can both attest that these may be the best wheels that Spitfire has put out yet. You won’t be dissapointed… they’re just sick as hell.
