Johnny Romano, We Wish You Were Here

Filed under: Random — Nealio @ 11:31 am

All of us from Small Times want to send our most heartfelt condolences to Johnny Romano’s friends, family, and everyone else in the skateboard community who cared about him. Some people say there’s a reason for everything, and that may be true, but sometimes I can’t help but think that it’s just flat-out unfair.

Please read this piece written by our friend Jim Thiebaud from Deluxe distribution, and also check out this blog, designed and maintained for the family and friends of young Mr. Romano.

Rest in peace Johnny.

Very unfair, and it sickens as well as saddens me to hear of this news. My thoughts and prayers are with his family, I don’t won’t to even try to imagine how I would feel if that were my son.

I Hope he is skating with Big Mike

    RIP, little ripper

My thoughts and prayers are with the Romano family. I can’t even begin to comprehend what they have been through and are going through. Like Mac says what if that were my son.

From all I have heard and read about Johnny, he was a very special person and an inspiration to many.

And what does his death have to do with hammond?

thought this was a LOCAL skateboard site.
    No one cares.

My hart goes out to his family. I read their blog they are really good people and I wish them well as they try to pull through this.

P.S. Slim and Greg you guys are going to hell.

  7. Nealio Says:

Slim, this is a local skateboard site. As for what it has to do with Hammond:

Jim Thiebaud runs Deluxe Distribution, the company behind Real, Anti Hero, Krooked, Indy, etc etc. Jim went out of his way to help us raise money when Big Mike passed away, going so far as to make a board that went on sale all over the globe.

At the same time, Jim was working on helping Johnny get the best treatment he could by doing the same things he did for us & Big Mikes family. Deluxe introduced the world to Johnny, and a lot of us wanted to get involved in helping another skater get back on board, which really is the main point I guess…

…Romano was a good kid and a fellow skateboarder. I’m not sure what your belief system is, but Small Times has a philosophy: If you skate, you’re part of the family. That’s my personal philosophy as well. When Johnny died, just as with Mike, the skate community as a whole lost someone. If it’s your choice to limit your frame of reference to Hammond alone, fine, but to dismiss or diminish the loss of Johnny is at best rude, at worst just sick.

Greg: Site’s not dead. I’ll elaborate in an update.

  8. braman Says:

Slim, not only rude and sick, but wrong.
I cared, not only as a skater, but as a humanbeing.

    Seemed like a good kid.
Anytime anyone young goes, you can’t help but be hit harder by it.
Little fella had potential… God be with him and his family.

I just noticed on another website (oma), that there is gonna be an evern for Johnny in Houston on Nov 9. Looks like they will be accepting blood donations at this time.

    Anyone have anymore info?
